Savannah Underage DUI Defense Lawyers

Ready To Protect You or Your Child’s Rights & Future

It is not uncommon for high school and college students to engage in underage drinking at parties and other social gatherings. However, underage drinking is often associated with drunk driving and serious accidents, which is why under 21 DUI laws in Georgia are strict and associated with harsh criminal penalties.

If you or your son or daughter has been arrested for a DUI, having an experienced lawyer on your side can ensure their rights, freedom, and future are protected throughout the legal process. The Savannah underage DUI defense attorneys at Schneider Lerch Bronston, LLC have an extensive track record of helping people get the best possible outcome in their DUI cases.

Georgia’s Underage DUI Laws

Georgia has a “no tolerance” law for underage drivers. A driver under 21 years old can be charged with a DUI in Georgia for operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol content (BAC) level of at least .02 percent, rather than .08 percent for drivers who are 21 and older.

There are two types of underage DUIs in the state: DUI “per se” and DUI "less-safe". The former occurs when an underage driver takes a breath or blood test and receives a result of at least .02 percent, while the latter occurs when an underage driver refuses to take a chemical test or is impaired by drugs.

What are the Penalties for an Underage DUI in Georgia?

A first offense can carry the following consequences:

  • $300-$1,000 fine
  • 10 days - 12 months in jail
  • 40 hours of community service
  • DUI school
  • License suspension

Unfortunately, not only does a DUI conviction result in serious criminal penalties, but it may also result in a permanent criminal record that can negatively impact college aspirations and career goals. That is why the first step to take to avoid conviction or have penalties reduced is to hire an experienced Savannah underage DUI defense lawyer from Schneider Lerch Bronston, LLC.
